MATCH REPORT: 2-2 draw at El Sardinero

Valencia CF play out a 2-2 draw away from home against Racing Santander

Valencia CF drew 2-2 with Real Racing Club de Santander in their LaLiga EA Sports Matchday 8 fixture at El Sardinero, with Dani Raba and David Otorbi on the scoresheet.

No sooner had the game got underway, than Valencia CF were celebrating a great goal from Dani Raba, who capitalised on an aerial ball from Justin De Haas. He controlled the ball, drove into the box, and finished perfectly past former Valencia CF goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala to make it 0-1.

Shortly after, Racing came close to equalising following a ball into our box that Pepelu managed to clear.

The ensuing minutes were an intense battle for control of the game. The home team mounted several attacks on goal, but Valencia CF held firm.

However, Racing leveled off a through-ball from Íñigo Vicente, which the in-form Zabiri latched onto to finish.

Minutes later, Stole Dimitrievski intervened to save a dangerous shot from Íñigo Vicente..

In the 44th minute, Javi Guerra met a pass from José Luis Gayà inside the Racing area, then got a show away -only to see it flash wide.

SECOND HALF

For the start of the second half, Arnaut Danjuma replaced Mouctar Diakhaby, as Javier Aguirre made an attacking change.

Two minutes in, Iván Martín put Racing ahead with a shot from outside the box, taking the score to 2-1.

Ten minutes later, Raba threatened with a strike from inside the area, though the ball didn't quite swerve enough to make it into the top corner.

Changing personnel further, David Otorbi and Harvey Elliott came onto the pitch to freshen things up.

Valencia CF threatened again with a counterattack led by Javi Guerra, but the Racing defenders blocked the final attempt. On the next attack -again involving Guerra- he provided an assist into the box for the recently introduced Otorbi, who finished off to put Valencia CF back on terms.

With practically 80 minutes of the match gone, Valencia CF flirted with a third goal through a move by Pablo Maffeo; Otorbi pounced on the rebound, but his shot was deflected by the Racing back line.

In stoppage time, Dimitrievski pulled off a great diving save to deny Racing a winner, keeping out a strike by Pablo García.

In the 93rd minute, Hugo Duro also had a chance to score the winner for Valencia CF; Otorbi beat his defender and cut the ball back into the box for the striker, whose effort grazed the outside of the post.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw. Next up for Valencia CF is a Saturday fixture at Mestalla against Athletic Club, on LaLiga Matchday 9.
